Oct. 27" c.d.s. with slug below day, plea in manuscript at left: "Whoever will take this across the Mississippi will confer a lasting favor and relieve the anxiety of a mother & sisters," there is also a note at top, "Our brother War letter" written at an unknown later date, label with gum soaks and pair with some light soiling, the cover opened on 3 sides, Fine and rare, especially desirable with the sender's favor plea.

Confederacy "Forwarded by the Louisiana Committee at Mobile,", in bold manuscript on reverse on cover to Richmond with 5c Blue (4) horizontal pair, ample margins to large with right sheet margin, tied by twin strikes of "Mobile Ala. Nov. 13, 1863" double circle, penciled approval of J.C. Denis, Provost Marshall on flap, Fine and rare. The Committee was organized by ex New Orleans and Louisiana residents at Mobile for the purpose of providing assistance to refugees; the forwarding of letters became an important function almost immediately.

The General Hospital at Chester was used for wounded Confederates taken at Gettysburg. Only August and Sept. dates are known.
